- Identify 3 deep pages that have fewer than 3 internal links pointing to them.
- Find parent or pillar pages with high inbound traffic and authority.
- Insert contextual links from those high-authority pages to your 3 deep pages using descriptive, partial-match anchor text.
Common Pitfalls
- Excessive Footer/Sidebar Links: Links stuffed into global templates pass far less contextual weight than in-content, contextual links. Prioritize body content links.
- Anchor Text Over-Optimization: Using exact-match anchors for 100% of your internal links to a commercial page triggers algorithmic suspicion. Keep it natural.
- Ignoring Link Depth: Leaving critical conversion pages four or five clicks deep guarantees they will lack the PageRank needed to compete.
